just do it
just start doing it.
waiting until it's perfect will mean that you never start
This week I started filming videos of myself reading my poetry out loud, and I've been posting them on TikTok.
I'm not usually one to post a bunch on social media. It's definitely a little outside of my comfort zone. I get in my head about it - wondering what other people might think about it, wondering if I'm being "cringey." Filming & refilming a bunch of times, each time finding something to pick apart in the video because it isn't "perfect."
but FUCK that. If I waited until every video was perfect, I would never post. And you know what? It's okay that it's not perfect.
It's art.
More importantly, it's MY art that I get to share with the world. And it's less about other people seeing it than it is about me just sharing it in the first place.
The moral of the story - if I waited until I felt like it was perfect, I would still be editing and re-filming my day 1 video for the hundredth time.
Instead, I've posted several more videos. And it feels GOOD.
I know they're not influencer-level videos. I know I could probably work on my lighting, my delivery, my editing skills, etc. etc. etc. But that's okay! because I'm proud of myself for just putting it out there.
And you should be too. post the video. share the poem. send the picture. give the speech.
Whatever it is that you've been holding back on, just do it.
Just start. And I promise you - you will learn & grow & refine along the way if you keep at it.
So that's what I'm going to do, and I hope you do too. Cheers to just doing the damn thing.
i love you,
rachel

an invitation for you:
Take some time to reflect on where you have been holding back, where you've been stopping yourself from doing what you want to do. Then, do it. Do it scared. Do it nervous. Do it imperfectly.
Just. Do. It.
Weekly Journal Prompt
